Precision finishing across the entire Solid Carbide DIN 6527 range
A new addition to the Hepyc catalogue, completing the family alongside references 3170 and 3191.
There are tools designed for roughing, for removing material fast, and there are tools designed to leave the workpiece ready: a clean, consistent finish with no need for additional operations. The 3199 end mill belongs to this second group.
With the addition of the 3199, Hepyc Cutting Tool Experts completes a family of Solid Carbide end mills for finishing, now made up of three references: 3170, 3191 and 3199.
Each offers a different combination of tool length and flute count, allowing users to select the most suitable option for each machining operation.
All three references share the same approach: Integral Carbide, 30° helix and radial cut, designed for an excellent finish and greater stability during the process.
What changes between them is the series length and the number of flutes:
Long series, 2 flutes and TiAlN coating.
3191 (ref. 31910) — DIN 6527EL
Extra Long series, 2 flutes and AlCrN coating.
3199 (ref. 31990) — DIN 6527EL
Extra Long series, 4 flutes and AlCrN coating.
A higher flute count allows higher feed rates while maintaining a high-quality finish, while the extra-long versions provide greater reach when machining deep cavities or hard-to-access areas.
All three references are suitable for soft magnetic steels, construction and case-hardening steels, and non-alloy and alloy carbon steels, up to a hardness of 55 HRC.

The 3199 reference is available in 12 diameters, from 2 to 20 mm, each with its corresponding overall length and cutting length:

What's the difference between the 3199 and references 3170 and 3191?
All three share similar geometry and approach, but differ in the DIN standard (3170 is DIN 6527L, Long series; 3191 and 3199 are DIN 6527EL, Extra Long series) and in the number of flutes (3170 and 3191 have 2 flutes; the 3199 has 4).
Which version should I choose?
It depends on the reach the operation needs and the finish you're after: for higher feed rates while maintaining finish quality, the 3199 (4 flutes) is the option; for applications requiring fewer flutes or a shorter series, the 3170 or 3191 is the better fit.
What materials are they suitable for?
Soft magnetic steels, construction and case-hardening steels, and non-alloy and alloy carbon steels, up to a hardness of 55 HRC.
